Our history and humble beginning...
Waterborne Adventures was created in 1997 by Andre Oosthuisen in Plettenberg Bay,
Western Cape, this was as a culmination of Andre’s lifelong love of water and related
sports. Every one of these activity’s being “borne on water” and every one being a
new adventure for first timers thus Waterborne Adventures. At this stage Andre had
been involved in the water sport industry for over 20 years during which he obtained
provincial status in Waterskiing, Sailing and shooting. Andre holds a master instructor
rating in Scuba diving and has been a professional water sport trainer for a number of
years having trained numerous people in all forms of water sports.
During the nineties Andre was asked to project manage one of South Africa’s largest
IT implementations for the SAAF. This was due to his history in the IT industry
(having taught IT classes at the age of 16 already) During this period his reputation as
a IT specialist became quite known amongst his friends and associates.
In 1998 some Waterborne Adventures clients approached him to consider taking over
their IT requirements, as they were tired of a long list of promises and little show
from the IT support people they were involved with. This was done and so was
borne the IT division within Waterborne Adventures. This then kept the reputable and
known name amongst the listed clients as well as carried over the basic foundation
upon which it was built, being promise what you can deliver and deliver on that promise.
This is the trademark that is kept by all the Waterborne Staff to this day.
The IT division of Waterborne has grown from strength to strength and will continue
to do so and even now boasts some well known company’s in South Africa. This
division specialises in the support and installation of LAN and other localised
requirements.
Parallel to this Waterborne Adventures water sport can boast some of the most
advanced in house dive training facility’s in the country as well as affiliations to some
of the worlds top organisations.
